In recent news (notwithstanding a judge’s ruling to stop federal funding of embryonic stem cell research), the FDA is permitting a clinical trial of a stem cell-based treatment for acute spinal cord injury to go forward. Researchers are also moving forward on another front, learning how to create new heart muscle cells that could potentially fix damaged hearts.
These are potential advances in the medical miracles doctors can perform.
We have amazing technologies. While we are developing them, we should also focus on the here and now of health care issues: improving access and assuring that every patient always has a great medical experience.
